Extensis SUITCASE X1 Mac Upgrade

4 stars (Suitcase works well) - Suitcase X1 works well. It does require healthy installation and cleaning up your fonts one time. The fact that it forces you to do that is a good thing. Some people will not read the directions or will not be disciplined to clean up their fonts and will have lots of trouble. When this is installed properly, the professional font management features are well worth it. Apple's Font Book is fine for the home user but the professional needs a more powerful solution like Suitcase X1. 1 stars (Unstable) - This program is buggy. Stick with font book that comes with OSX. This release has problems with: Not saving settings, not loading fonts correctly for use, constant conflict problems, Ive had multiple problems with the program crashing on startup requiring me to go in and manually clean out fonts. I never write reviews but the amount of headache this program has given me prompted me to spread the word. AVOID SUITCASE AT ALL COSTS! ...

Extensis PHOTO IMAGING SUITE SCE-35782

4 stars (Extensis Photo Imaging Suite) - Pros: Great bundle, solid, friendly interface. Cons: Missing Portfolio Manual, Big ticket price. If you have virtually any experience in digital imaging, and have not heard the name "Extensis" mentioned in some form or another, then I suspect you have been hiding in a spider cave somewhere in the desert. I have personally owned, and used all of their software programs at one time or another, and can personally vouch for their reliability, and usefulness. And so, in keeping up with the "Jones's"(I.E. Adobe), The great folks at Extensis have just released their latest and greatest suite of programs titled, Extensis Photo Imaging Suite. for the purposes of brevity, I will refer to this program as EPI Suite in this review. The Extensis product line is extensive, and broad in its scope. It currently stands at roughly 20 plus programs all targeted at digital imaging tools including type and layout programs. This newest Suite of programs contain the top 5 programs all bundled together into one singular "Suite" of powerful creative tools. All of these programs function independently of each other, and do not include a "Version Cue" style of interface like its Adobe counterpart. That about wraps it up for Extensis Photo Imaging Suite. Every program included in this suite is another powerful step in the workflow of photo imaging capabilities. To go from enhancing an image, cleaning it up, masking it off, framing it, upscaling it, to finally cataloguing it, Extensis Photo Imaging Suite rocks. Without exception, I could, and do use every one of these programs in my daily imaging, and will for a long time to come. In closing I want to urge all of you to take a good look at this great suite of programs from Extensis. I know that many of you out there think that the only program that you need to be fully digital is Adobe Photoshop. And I will tell you that you are really missing out on a number of time, and labor saving progra...

Extensis SUITCASE X1 Mac

1 stars (Unstable) - This program is buggy. Stick with font book that comes with OSX. This release has problems with: Not saving settings, not loading fonts correctly for use, constant conflict problems, Ive had multiple problems with the program crashing on startup requiring me to go in and manually clean out fonts. I never write reviews but the amount of headache this program has given me prompted me to spread the word. AVOID SUITCASE AT ALL COSTS! 1 stars (Don't buy Suitcase) - I bought this because I'm a graphic designer and I have 1000+ fonts on my system at once. And that can really slow things down, and it can also really cause problems if just one of those fonts gets corrupted. So I thought I needed a big "powerful" solution like Suitcase. Turns out, the Font Book that is PART of OS X Panther, does everything I need. It lets you preview fonts, it lets you disable and enable them. Its a very powerful little app, and its FREE. Font Suitcase sucks. It doesn't seem to work at all. Its manual does very little to really explain how your supposed to really use the app. It doesn't explain things well at all. I'm a pretty smart guy, and I couldn't figure out how to get all my fonts into the program properly, and when I could get them to show up, I couldn't turn any of them on or off. Suitcase is a mess. It is a waste of money and a waste of time. Font Book, that comes with OS X 10.3 is the best app. So simple, so easy to use, so effective. So Apple. ...

Extensis Portfolio 7 for Win-Mac

4 stars (Powerful, not for casual users) - Like PhotoShop, Porfolio is rich and deep. It rewards patient, attentive souls who study and learn. Portfolio 4 was a Godsend for me eight years ago. With it, I was able to efficiently organize thousands of images and produce a complex CD-ROM project. Since then I have used versions 5, 6, and now 7. All have been very useful. Catalogs are a great feature of Portfolio. You can create multiple catalogs from the same database: one for this book, one for that report, one for this chapter, and another for that chapter. A single image can appear in one catalog or in many catalogs. You can drag an image out of a catalog and drop it in a report. All the while you have just one picture stored in one database. Not that long ago, for Windows users, there was nothing like Portfolio. Now Windows Explorer displays thumbnails, filmstrips, and EXIF data. Programs bundled with digital cameras, like Canon's Zoombrowser, are very easy to use, not to mention Google's Picassa. If one those is working for you, stay with it. However, if you have multiple publishing projects that require searching or scanning thousands of images, and if you use programs like Adobe InDesign to publish them, then you may find Porfolio indispensible. 2 stars (Endless headaches) - I've been trying to use Portfolio 7 for three months now to catalogue 3000 photos and create an online catalog. This product was recommended as the best application for what I wanted to do. I've used computers on a professional level for 12 years-I'm no greenhorn. Portfolio 7 has been a continuous nightmare. The manual is inadequate and incomplete. Tech Support was at first a 40 minute long distance hold and then friendly-but unhelpful-tech support. Then they wouldn't answer the phone at all. With e-mail support you'll get a get message acknowledging your query and then - nothing - Any useful tech support I received was from third parties. Little and undocumented things like not clicki...
